The latest news from Bourton Vale Equestrian Centre

KAREN SETTLES IN!
Karen has settled in extremely well here at BVEC. She has bought the riding capablities of our students on no end and is proving very popular with riders of all levels. Her expertise and knowledge are second to none and we are very proud to have her as part of our team

PONY CLUB

Wednesday Pony club has finished for the Summer holidays while the pony rallies and pony days take over (details below). Pony Club finished off with fun and games, and with all members earning at least one badge and many gained their Bronze award too. Details of these should be in the Pony Club Literature sent directly to you. WELL DONE ALL!

VISITORS BOOK

We have rented these stables for the last 9 years always knowing that the site would eventually be developed for houses - we thank our landlords for allowing us to be here in the meantime! While still a way off yet, we are collating a list of who uses us in order to show our benefit to the community for when the time comes and we need new LOCAL premises. We would therefore be very grateful if you could make an entry in our visitors book which is found in the office

NEW FACES

We welcome Mouse, an older "been there, done it, got the t shirt" pony who is already proving a firm favourite.

Also Robin, another "been there got the tshirt but you still have to know how to ride!" pony, so perfectly replaces Ross! who has moved on to a quieter life in his older age.

Magic also makes a temporary return to the yard after his 36 companion sadly passed away - he is shortly destined to move to another partial retirement home with Alice and Millie Rench although it's lovely to have him back in the meantime.

Soda made an entrance into this world on 11th may - son of Whiskey and Bluey he combines the best (and worse!) of both his parents! Very very friendly but also overconfident - he's sure to make his presence known!

Piper, Son of Popsox and Bluey was born just 2 weeks ago - very different to Soda - much more refined and fussy as to who will be his friend!

We eagerly await the birth of our last foal of the year - Milly is at the yard now expected to give birth to another of bluey's sons ANY DAY!

DOGS

We've asked this before in newsletters, but we have to say it again. PLEASE DO NOT THROW STONES for the dogs. Their teeth get chipped and Wesley narrowly escaped having an operation due to this.........they have various toys around the yard that you can throw for them as much as you like! If you do not want to throw things for them, by all means growl at them and tell them to get lost - i do all the time!

DO NOT FEED THE DOGS! And DO NOT allow your children to approach or try to pet them while eating. This goes for ANY dog, not just ours - dogs do not understand that you are not trying to pinch their food.

Please do not allow your children to run around the yard or chase the dogs - They are teaching Tex a new game that isnt very clever! He doesnt understand that not all children are running to play with him and has bowled a couple of running children over! The yard, while we try to make it a happy place to be is NOT a playground

HEALTH AND SAFETY

I make no apology for leaving the following in all the newsletters!

Whenever you walk onto this yard there is a safety risk. Unfortunately animals do not have an on/off button and the batteries cannot be taken out when we no longer want to play with them. We HAVE to take this issue very seriously, and as such the most recent risk assessment is available to all in the office, and if you have not yet completed  a client form, please do so. These too are found in the office. Sadly, for you, the client, more and more restrictions are laid down by the insurance companies due to the "someone is to blame!" society in which we find ourselves. This has led to some opportunities to learn having to be withdrawn. While every care is taken on our behalf to ensure your safety while riding, we ask that you take some responsibility for your own/dependants welfare, and advise us of any health or safety issue you may have. If you are uncomfortable with anything asked of you/your dependants please let us know!

Bourton Vale Racing

Following the sidelining of our racehorse due to injury, Jake has been sporting our colours Pony racing on our very own Africa! They both did us proud, even beating one pony in our last race! Africa LOVED it, proved very safe, and looked after jake on every occasion. He has now got a new pony to race, Lizzy, as Africa found it hard to combine both his jobs.......racing and riding school pony. Africa has since been leased by Hope Davies, so maybe we'll see them on the racecourse in the future?????
